AIDT is Alabama's award-winning workforce development organization that encourages economic development through job-specific training. They provide recruitment, screening, customized training programs, and placement services at no cost to the company. Its mission is to provide quality workforce development for Alabama’s new and expanding businesses and to expand the opportunities of its citizens through the jobs these businesses create.

AIDT’s Total Workforce Delivery System has provided thousands of skilled, motivated employees to Alabama industries since 1971. AIDT prides itself on a quick and complete response. AIDT provides on-the-spot training even before you have a place to provide on-the-job training.

Enterprise State Community College’s Alabama Aviation College has one of its four locations in The Covington County Business Development Center at South Alabama Regional Airport. The Alabama Aviation College has provided the aviation industry with well-trained, certified technicians for over fifty years.

The college offers FAA-approved airframe and power-plant programs, a general aviation technology curriculum for individuals with aviation experience, and an avionics technician curriculum. All aviation programs reflect current industry standards to prepare students for careers in the high-growth aviation industry.

Aviation training is offered to high school students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. Two-year post-secondary programs are available in aircraft maintenance and avionics technology, where students gain skills that transfer directly to the automotive, machinery, and machine industries.

The colleges in Alabama consist of premier large research universities as well as small and midsize schools. Many of the four-year degree-granting institutions in Alabama are publicly funded, and many top colleges are located in the state capital of Montgomery.

Troy University, Auburn University, and the University of South Alabama — short drives from Covington County — offer four-year and graduate degrees.

Alabama's Research Universities:

LBWCC is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges to award the Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, and the Associate in Applied Sciences Degrees. LBWCC also offers a variety of programs leading to careers in applied technologies and advanced manufacturing. All programs contain classroom and laboratory components to ensure that students are prepared to enter the workforce as successful practitioners in their field. Available programs include automotive mechanics, computer science, diesel and heavy equipment mechanics, forest technology, welding, and many more. LBWCC also has continuing  education programs and accelerated secondary/dual enrollment courses for high school  students.

The Workforce Development Department at LBWCC provides a broad range of programs, services, and training opportunities for residents in the Butler, Covington, and Crenshaw county areas. The goal of the Workforce Development Division is to offer quality educational programs and services that will meet the community's changing personal and professional development needs, including employees of local businesses and industries.
The Workforce Development Department offerings are designed for quick skills training, professional development, and personal enrichment. Although these courses are non-credit, certificates are awarded for each completed class.

Training for Existing Business and Industry (TEBI) includes non-credit courses for a specific skill area offered to the general public, as well as training customized by LBWCC for the employees of a particular company. Course times and locations — at the work site or the college campus — are scheduled for the convenience of the participants.

LBWCC has three campuses in south Alabama: Andalusia, Opp, and Greenville.

The Department of Commerce’s Workforce Development Division is dedicated to assisting the growth of Alabama businesses and the workers that sustain their operations. The Workforce Development Division equips workers with the tools and talents that employers demand by directing individuals toward job skills improvement programs, education, and training.

The Workforce Development Division ensures the alignment of programs, including the Federal WIOA program, Regional Workforce Councils, and the AIDT. In addition, Commerce provides administrative support for the Alabama Workforce Council.

Southeast AlabamaWorks serves Covington County and the rest of Region 6 of the Workforce Development Council by recruiting, training, and empowering a highly-skilled workforce driven by business and industry needs. They strive to identify and address the workforce needs of new and existing businesses and industries by developing mutually beneficial partnerships with education systems, training providers, job seekers, and the communities served.
